All the way from the streets of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Buchanan Street in Glasgow, The Brazilian Piper Pipe Band perform their unique blend of Scottish bagpipes and Brazilian music to an enthralled audience as they march down Buchanan Street to kick of the Piping Live! festivities and mark the beginning of the World Pipe Band Championships 2025 week in Glasgow. TRADtv had the pleasure of capturing some of the band’s fantastic performance and caught up with Pipe Major José Paulo as his band experienced playing in Scotland for the very first time.
The Brazilian Piper Pipe Band was founded in 1999 by Pipe Major J Paulo, a Brazilian Marines retired Chief Petty Officer and a pioneer within the municipality of Sao Goncalo, Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its objective is to put the spare time of adolescents to good use through the medium of music by using Scottish culture and bagpipes as instruments not merely of music, but of social inclusion, through the teaching of: values, civic responsibility, discipline, willpower and bonding.
