Piper Chris McCartan performs in the spectacular surroundings of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum as part of Piping Live! 2026.
McCartan opened the festival’s week of “Gig in the Gallery” performances with a Great Highland Bagpipe recital in Kelvingrove’s Centre Hall. The programme drew on material from his recent recital at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, with a particular focus on the music and legacy of the 8th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and Pipe Major John McLellan.
In this TRADtv feature, we hear highlights from Chris’s performance and speak with him about the music, the stories behind the repertoire and performing in one of Glasgow’s most distinctive cultural spaces during the city’s annual celebration of piping.
Piping Live! brings together traditional and contemporary piping from Scotland and around the world, with performances, competitions and special events taking place across Glasgow throughout Worlds Week.
TRADtv celebrates the musicians, performances and stories at the heart of traditional music and piping. Subscribe for more interviews, live music and coverage from Piping Live!, the World Pipe Band Championships and beyond.
