Talented young Australian bagpiper and composer Bede Patterson performs alongside his partner from The Nexus Project, Scottish soprano saxophonist Dean Garrity at Glasgow’s famous Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum as part of the 2025 Piping Live! Festival. TRADtv caught up with the exciting young musicians after their show about recording their upcoming project and the origins and inspirations behind their unique sound.
Exploring the ancient sounds of Scottish piobaireachd music through a contemporary experimental jazz fusion lens, Bede Patterson (highland bagpipes) and Dean Garrity (soprano saxophone) take the audience on a journey through their unique soundscapes as part of Glasgow’s week-long celebration of bagpiping in all of it’s forms. The dynamic Bagpipe & Saxophone duo are the product of a larger experimental ensemble, The Nexus Project.
